The Best kept Secret In British Music... Its That Bloke From Black Adder

Yep that's right, actor, comedian and apparently passionate musician Hugh Laurie has recorded a New Orleans Blues album. I'll be honest, when I heard that he'd recorded it, with his straight laced demeanor in films and his own unique, slapstick approach to George's personality in Black adder I paused... perused the idea for a little while... and then had to research to the album out of pure curiosity . Of course it was completely naive of me to base my conceptions of the man on his acting career as after all he is ACTING, but still it came as a shock.

The albums expected to be released on the 9th of May and is Lauries first recording after signing to Warner Brothers last year! It also features an impressive line up of guests including Tom Jones, Irma Thomas, Dr.John and Allen Toussaint.

I've downloaded the free track from Lauries website and I have to say I'm really looking forward to the album now! A well thought out and superbly crafted work I'd describe it as New Orleans Blues infused with a quintessential British flavour. Also looking at the track listing the first track has to be my favourite blues piece of all time, the fantastic St James Infirmary Blues! Can't wait to hear that one!

Hugh will be performing on Jools Holland this week for his first TV performance of the pieces

Also don't miss him at this years Cheltenham jazz festival: http://www.cheltenhamfestivals.com/find-events/j47-hugh-laurie
